Lets talk about hypnosis…
Literally everyone who has completed a program of clinical hypnosis with me has told me that how they feel about their problem issue has changed dramatically.
Clinical hypnosis allows you to get to the root of the problem and deal with it at the level of the subconscious mind allowing you can gain control of your life.
Fully 95% of the population can be hypnotized! The remaining 5% are either under the mental age of six or they are having an active psychotic episode.
Many people feel that they cannot be hypnotized, when in reality, they simply do not want to be hypnotized. There are many reasons for this. Most of the time it is because they do not know what clinical hypnosis really is or does. In fact, anyone who wants the benefits of hypnosis can be hypnotized.
Many works of fiction, such as movies, television programs, and comic books portray clinical hypnosis as a form of total mind control; however, most authorities agree that this is a total exaggeration. Portrayals in these forms of media foster a number of popular misconceptions which are often taken to be true by the public at large, adding to the controversy surrounding clinical hypnosis.
Some believe that clinical hypnosis is a form of mind control and/or brainwashing that can control a person's behavior and judgment and therefore could potentially cause them harm. These beliefs are not generally based on scientific evidence, as there is no scientific consensus on whether mind control even exists.
Some people believe that hypnosis is caused by the hypnotist's power. This misconception can be due to the stage hypnotist's showmanship and their perpetuated illusion of possessing mysterious abilities. This makes for good entertainment but has no basis in fact! The reality is that the hypnotist has no power other than to offer suggestions to which the subject or client may choose to respond or not to respond.
Some people believe that a person can become 'stuck' in hypnosis. The trance state is ultimately controlled by the client who may actually choose to terminate the hypnotic process at any time. While I’ve had many clients who want want to enjoy the comfort of the trance state for as long as possible, it is literally impossible to become stuck in hypnosis.
Some people believe that one is unconscious and unaware in hypnosis. While the word 'Hypnosis' is derived from the Greek word for 'sleep' and many hypnotists still use the language of 'Sleep' and 'Awake', hypnosis is not sleep. From the mental standpoint, a hypnotic subject is relaxed yet alert and always aware at some level.
Some people believe one can only be hypnotized if one is weak-minded. Due to the popular but incorrect definition of clinical hypnosis as mind control, some people believe that the ability to experience hypnosis is related to strength and soundness of mind. However, scientists note that personality traits such as gullibility or submissiveness, or factors such as low intelligence are not related to hypnotizability. Research studies suggest neither intelligence, sex, nor personality traits affect responsiveness to hypnosis even though many hypnotists feel that the more intelligent you are and the more creative you are the more you are easily hypnotized and the better results you get.
Another misconception in popular culture is that hypnosis is the product of vivid imaginations and that hypnotic phenomena is merely imagined in the mind. Actually, studies using PET scans have shown that hypnotized subjects who received suggestions to have auditory hallucinations demonstrated regional blood flow in the same areas of the brain as real hearing, whereas subjects merely imagining hearing noise did not.
Many are surprised to find that they enter the hypnotic state several times a day spontaneously. The body loves trance and produces it readily, whether we are driving, daydreaming, dropping off to sleep at night, or are simply absorbed in a good book or film or TV show.
Clinical hypnosis combined with a commitment to achieve a longed-for goal, can be very effective in helping people just like you, to overcome those things in yourself that you would like to change.
At your first hypnosis therapy session, I take extra time to explain clinical hypnosis in depth and answer any questions that you may have.
So, just what is clinical hypnosis? Hypnosis is a natural process in which the critical thinking faculties of the mind are bypassed and a type of selective thinking and perception is established. In other words, Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration. You allow your body to relax and your mind becomes very focused on the issue you would like to change. Hypnosis therapy can give you very rewarding and satisfying results on issues you may have struggled with for years. If something is causing problems in your life there is no reason for you to continue to suffer. Hypnosis therapy can help you!
Hypnosis therapy is the process of unlocking the capacity of the subconscious mind to bring about a wanted change. A skilled hypnotist brings this about by relaxing the conscious mind, guiding the individual into relaxation, and giving them ‘minds eye’ situations to imagine and 'experience'.
Hypnosis therapy works by bypassing the conscious mind and allowing the subconscious mind to reveal the real reason you hold onto habits that no longer meet your needs. What many do not understand is that most all of what we do is a habit and most all of what we do is controlled by the subconscious.
Your subconscious mind stores an enormous amount of information and emotion, of which you probably have no conscious knowledge. However, although you have no conscious knowledge of it, it still causes your conscious mind to behave and react in the way it does. Sometimes, there are conflicts between the way these parts of the mind see the world, and this can be a major cause of issues in your life.
To give an example: Fear
The conscious mind knows that there is no logical reason to be afraid of worms (for example), but something has caused the subconscious mind to attach a fear to the worm, so the subconscious fear overrides the conscious mind that says, “Gee, its just a worm.” During hypnosis therapy the subconscious is able to rid itself of the initial reason it picked up a fear of worms and you no longer cringe each time you see one in the garden.
During suggestive clinical hypnosis therapy, as the name suggests, the hypnotist gives the subconscious mind beneficial 'suggestions', which allow it to change the way it looks at events or situations. These suggestions, when absorbed by the subconscious mind, can enable a person to find it easier to do something they would like to do, or easier to stop doing something they no longer wish to do.
This can be particularly helpful where you have decided that something you are doing needs to be out of your life.
When the cause of an issue is exposed and the resulting issues are dealt with (i.e. cause and effect), the symptoms it produces can progressively start to disappear.
Hypnosis therapy can be very cathartic and if the client is truly committed to bringing about beneficial change, the benefits gained from it can be huge.
Clinical hypnosis can also be used to create a journey through personal development and self-discovery. Many of my clients come to my office to learn how to enhance their lives by learning to be all that they can be. It can be and often is quite a discovery.
